Weigh in: Places and stories

Suggest places and stories for our weekly series on Southland neighborhoods.

21. LA Times should investigate politicians who are rotten to the core. I would like someone to look into the following leaders: Councilman Reyes, Councilman Huizar, and Mayor Villaraigosa. As a latina, it is my belief that this LA politicians have sold out their communities for the mighty dollar!

22. I think the LOS ANGELES Times should do a piece on LOS ANGELES or anumber of cities in LOS ANGELES County. So many times I open this newspaper it's all about Orange County, Palm Springs. I think a piece about areas in Los Angeles need to be addressed. South Central, USC area, Adams District, Compton, Inglewood, East L.A. A lot of GOOD things do go on in these neighborhoods if the paper would step out and go there to find great news articles. The skid row piece was great. Time to get some real stories about middle and lower income areas instead of the ritzy beach neighborhoods and the OC.

23. There appears to be a plan in various low socio-economic deprived communities to redevelop the communities in a manner that can be detrimental to the future of LAUSD children and residents! We need positive business growth! We need affordable housing but we do not need to be compacted like rats in the name of providing affordable housing. Currently, LAPD can't even provide the needed police protection for its residents! Let's build smart so the children have places to play and have fun! Let's not allow developers to build complexes that will eventually become PROJECTS!

24. Bush illegal aid to churches creates problems for cities. Churches give free sleeping bags & toiletries to food-stamped homeless so they can hang around towns & stay there. News of "good handouts" spreads. Mentally-ill people belong in taxpaid sheltered homes. Instead, churches encourage laxity in public agencies.

25. I would offer solutions to ensure the adminstration of justice in california is just, fair and accurate so that false and wrongful convictions can help stop wasting valuable tax money in this state budget that affects all . The use of evidence that is known to be false cannot be allowed to instruct a jury. Planting evidence on a defendant whether outside or inside the courtroom can never be allowed. Also, audio taping and video taping of court proceedings must be installed so that the record of statements to the accused innocence by the prosecution witness cannot be deleted removed or tampered with.

26. Or how about getting out of metropolitan LA totally and finding out about communities like Lake Arrowhead, Cedar Glen, Crestline, Running Springs, Sky Forest, Forest Falls. I'll bet you don't een know where they are.

27. Go to our prison communities and take a good look around. Inform us as to what we are spending a fortune to support. If we are overcrowded, then find out why?

28. Scott Gold's article on El Porto brought back very nastalgic feelings for my wife and me. We met in 1958 on the beach below 44th street. I was carrying a volleyball and she was wearing a sexy swimsuit. In those days the local motto was, "El Porto, love it or leave it." We all lived in apartments or cottages and never felt the need to lock the front door. Parties every night and wine hangovers. but the important thing was to have a good serve. The biggest building in the neighborhood was a 2-story apartment building which we resented because it blocked our view of the ocean. We never saw any drugs - our drug of choice was a dry martini.

29. You should write about all the racism against African Americans in the city of Lynwood and all the corruption happening there by the current city council. Why didn't Steve Cooley prosecute current Councilman Ramon Rodriguez for his 1090 conflict of interest violation?

30. Since the Landrum incident, (when Prolifers illlegally for a year used city hall lawn for prayer sessions) City Council performance deteriorated. OK was given to wreck a suburban area with a lighted noisy regional sports park, Two rapes came from Council OK of door to door sales license. Last week, a soap seller came to the home I chose to be away from neighborhood-wrecking standards like that, licensed right to trespass.
