Cinematography: Take a 'Closer' look at the work of Stephen Goldblatt

Cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.Goldblatt will step away from the camera as the The Plus Cameraimage international film festival pays tribute to his work.
Gratulacje Stephen Goldblatt! (That's how you say congratulations in Polish). Today the Plus Cameraimage 15th annual international film festival of the art of cinematography (which takes place in Poland) announced that the cinematographer would be receiving the Plus Camerimage Lifetime Achievement Award.
In case you aren't familiar with the Plus Cameraimage Festival, it is a weeklong film festival that takes place in the last week of November and is all about the art of cinematography. According to the website, 360 cinematographers, 13,000 film students and 50,000 film fans will attend workshops, seminars, live performances, and of course, an awards show. There will also be art exhibitions. Goldblatt worked as a still photographer for The London Sunday Times before getting into cinematography at the tail end of the 60s. Over the course of his 30-plus year career he has shot "Rent," "Closer," "Prince of Tides" for which he received an Oscar nom in 1991 and "Batman Forever," for which he received an Oscar nom in 1996. His most recent project is the not yet released "Charlie Wilson's War" directed by Mike Nichols and starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. The Plus Cameraimgae festival will be putting on a photo exhibition of 63 of Goldblatt's still photography works. The images on display will range from photos he took on a trip to Burma, still shots of some of his cinematographic work including stills from "Angels in America" and "Closer" as well as an array of other photos including shots of The Beatles and The Who. The festival, held in the Polish town of Lodz, goes from November 24-December 1.
