Oscar presenters: Class or sass?
By Mark Olsen, The Envelope

With the writers strike finally over, the producers of this year’s Academy Awards telecast have been scrambling to put together a show with all the glitz, glamour and star-power that people expect from the Oscars. When an announcement was made last week regarding the preliminary list of presenters for the broadcast, the howls of derision and confusion that greeted some of the names was presumably not the desired effect.

The folks behind the Oscars are in a bit of a bind. Some would complain that the show is too much a celebration of the old guard, and so perhaps some new blood is needed. Then there are those who want only a certain kind of classy, pre-approved performer to be associated with a show as stuffed-shirt snobbish as the Academy Awards. Here’s a look at some of the names that have really gotten peoples’ attention. Perhaps they were just the first ones to return the academy’s call?
