Tyler Perry gets double NAACP nomsThe writer-director received nods for his 'Family That Preys' film and 'House of Payne' TV series.
"Cadillac Records," "Miracle at St. Anna," "The Secret Life of Bees," "Seven Pounds" and "Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys" were nominated today for the 40th NAACP Image Award for outstanding motion picture.
On the television front, "30 Rock," "Everybody Hates Chris," "The Game," "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" and "Ugly Betty" were nominated for outstanding comedy series. "Grey's Anatomy," "House," " Lincoln Heights," "The Unit" and "The Wire" earned nominations for outstanding drama series. In contention for outstanding actor in motion picture are Derek Luke for "Miracle at St. Anna," Don Cheadle for "Traitor," Jeffrey Wright for "Cadillac Records," Rob Brown for "The Express" and Will Smith for "Seven Pounds." Outstanding actress nominees are Alfre Woodward for "The Family That Preys," Angela Bassett for "Tyler Perry's Meets the Browns," Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah for "The Secret Life of Bees" and Rosario Dawson for "Seven Pounds." In the supporting actor category, the nominees are Cedric the Entertainer, Columbus Short and Mos Def for "Cadillac Records," Dev Patel for "Slumdog Millionaire" and Nate Parker for "The Secret Life of Bees." Supporting actress contenders are Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Sophie Okonedo for "The Secret Life of Bees," Beyonce Knowles for "Cadillac Records" and Taraji P. Henson for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Outstanding independent motion picture nominees are "Ballast," "Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom," "Rachel Getting Married," "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Visitor." Foreign motion picture nominations went to "Captain Abu Read," "The Class," "Mongol," "Song of Sparrows" and "Under the Same Moon." Vying for outstanding actor in a comedy series are Donald Faison for "Scrubs," LeVan Davis for "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," Paul James for "Greek" and Terry Crews and Tyler James Williams for "Everybody Hates Chris." The comedic actress nominees are America Ferrera for "Ugly Betty," Cassi Davis for "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," Tia Mowry for "The Game," Tichina Arnold for "Everybody Hates Chris" and Tracee Ellis Ross for "Girlfriends." Competing for outstanding actor in a drama series are Anthony Anderson for "Law & Order," Blair Underwood for "In Treatment," Dennis Haysbert for "The Unit," Hill Harper for "CSI: NY" and Omar Epps for "House." Nominees for actress in a drama series are CCH Pounder for "The Shield," Chandra Wilson for "Grey's Anatomy," Loretta Divine for "Eli Stone," Nicki Micheaux for "Lincoln Heights" and Wendy Davis for "Army Wives." "A Raisin in the Sun," "24: Redemption," "Accidental Friendship," "House of Saddam" and "Racing for Time" were nominated for outstanding TV movie, mini-series or dramatic special.
