31. What a great story, and wonderfully told. Mr. Shankman's embrace of the park by walking supports my idea that for those of us born and raised here, this park is as much a human as a wildlife refuge. I live up in the Verdugo Hills across from the park. Early morning, a heron will fly across to fish at my koi pond. Now I will think of Sol over there at about the same hour, taking on those trails one more time. Cheers to you, Sol and thanks to Scott for letting us in on it.

33. 38 years ago I was born in the heart of Los Angeles, Chinatown. Sadly, other than pony rides, birthday parties and train rides as a young girl, I have never explored the trails of Griffith Park. Thank you Mr. Shankman for providing me with the inspiration to explore the beautiful nature of this City - right in my own backyard.

37. There is a 100 year old wonderful gentleman who walks and bikes everyday in our neighborhood. The guy served in WW1 & the big one. Would he be qualified in this article

38. Thanks for the piece on Mr. Shankman. I live on the other side of the country, in New Jersey. My rounds (I'm an aging runner) take me through very urban territory. I envy Mr. Shankman his access to Griffith Park. But not too much. I think Mr. Shankman would be quick to agree that being very envious is a dead end. I write to say that it's nice to know there's another soul out there, far away, who goes outside and puts one foot in front of the other every morning, as best as possible.
