21. Wonderful. Very inspiring to this 64 year old chemist who enjoys walks of several miles a day. Thanks for the story.

22. Wonderful story, wonderful person. We are very lucky here in L.A. because we have so many beautiful places to walk and enjoy nature. My grandfather used to walk 5 miiles a day. He lived to be a very healthy 98 year old!

23. I've often walked these trails with my beagle, "Levi" and be met by Sol's cheerful greeting, "Where's Strauss?" Sol wants everyone else who walks these trails to feel better, too. His last comment that everyone looks like a saint was ironic/ funny.... is that an advantage of being partially blind! Griffith Park is truly a marvel!

24. i've seen mr. shankman on regular morning runs over the past five years or so. i switched running locations after the '07 fire, but i think it's time to go back. i've taken friends, girlfriends and family into the griffith park trails to share in the good that it offers. great story.

27. An inspiring story of one man's dedication to take control of his own health, that turned into a life-long passion. In today's vast concrete landscapes, it's reassuring to find a piece of nature right in the midst of our city for the enjoyment of all. Bravo to Mr. Shankman...keep on trucking!

28. I've known Sol for several years- his daughter Janet, whom he lives with, is a close friend of mine. Sol is a remarkable gentleman, with a twinkly sense of humor and a zest for life undimmed by all those years. It's wonderful to read that he's still hiking the hills near his home.
