Fellman Big Bear cabin 1
After two decades in Los Angeles, New Hampshire native Suzan Fellman hankered for a four-seasons getaway where she could ski in the winter and make blueberry pies in the summer. Five years ago, she found a 1922 miner’s cabin near Big Bear Lake that was in "deplorable” condition. She rebuilt the 970-square-foot structure on a new foundation, reducing the number of bedrooms from three to two. Before, she says, “you opened the door and there was the bed, there was no room.” In the end, she created a folksy cabin with a tinge of nostalgia and a sense of fun. As part of our "Interior Monologue" feature, Times staff writer David A. Keeps asked Fellman to tell the story behind each room of the cabin, in her own words.
