Recipes from the Los Angeles Times Test Kitchen

HEARTY: The black bean soup at Las Brisas restaurant in Laguna Beach. Click here for the recipe.

We test, on average, more than 600 recipes a year. Roughly 400 of these make it to print. That means you don't have to worry about a trial run before serving one of our recipes to company — rest assured, it should work the first time out of the gate.

You can follow our test kitchen triumphs and the occassional mishaps at our food blog, latimes.com/dailydish.

Finally, bookmark this page: The recipe collection that follows includes all of our newest recipes and is updated each week.

Drink recipes: A variety of beverages, such as iced Vietnamese coffee, hot chocolate, aquas frescas and Mother's Ruin punch. Cheers!

Appetizer recipes: Get the party started with chicken and pesto turnovers, cheese beignets, smoked salmon and shitakes on toast -- and much, much more.

Breakfast recipes: It's the most important meal of the day, and one you'll look forward to if you're serving bacon-maple biscuits, Square One Dining's French toast, homemade bagels or a cheese omelet with tomatillo sauce.
