Parsons was nominated in the outstanding lead actor in a comedy series field for his work on "The Big Bang Theory." He helped announce the Emmy nominations today with Chandra Wilson of “Grey’s Anatomy.” During rehearsals, their names had been withheld from the list and during the telecast five names were read. Then the teleprompter added Parson’s name for Wilson to announce,. “I was staring at it like a robot,” Parsons said. “And then my name came up, and I reacted before she said it because I read it. It was not there before. It was some sort of trick fest. I was so stunned. I’m still stunned, and so very grateful and happy.”
Parsons, who plays the obsessive-compulsive scientist Sheldon, was on most of the critics’ prediction lists for a nomination. “What’s funny is that my first initial reaction is how sweet it seems. I thought about the individual people having to go and check off my name on a ballot. It seems unbelievable that anyone would ever get nominated when you think about it that way. It seems so kind.”
What would Sheldon say about the recognition?
“I truly believe he would find this silly. He might find the entire conceit of this really silly. To narrow it down to these nominees, he would find just ridiculous because he would say that he just be given the award and be done with it. In his field, maybe he’s right. But I truly don’t feel that way.”
Parsons, who couldn’t sleep and rose out of bed at 1:50 a.m., had planned to take a nap after the announcements.
“I’m sorry, a nap is out of the question. The buzz that is reverberating through my body right now, there is no sleep for the wicked."
