2007 Best Supporting Actress contenders
By Gregory Ellwood, The Envelope

The acting categories are always competitive, but this year may set a new standard in how deep the really fields are and the best supporting race for actress is a perfect example. From Saoirse Ronan’s deft turn in “Atonement” to Amy Ryan’s harrowing portrayal in “Gone Baby Gone” to Jennifer Jason Leigh’s simmering sister in “Margot at the Wedding,” the ladies have more than delivered. Of course, the ultimate irony would be if “I’m Not There’s” Cate Blanchett wins for playing…a man.
