Emmy style and error

A look back at last year's fashion mishaps.

July 20, 2007

The 2007 Emmy nominations were announced this week and, despite all those fancy-schmancy voting changes, there's still a plethora of predictable and familiar faces -- from past Emmys, Globes and SAG Awards -- in the Best Actress categories.

That means Mariska Hargitay, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Felicity Huffman, Patricia Arquette, Helen Mirren, Katherine Heigl, Debra Messing, Jaime Pressly and Kyra Sedgwick will all be back on the red carpet Sept 16.

Stylewise, several of these gals scored pretty high last year. Only a handful didn't make a passing grade and no one was forcibly expelled.

For whatever reason, there aren't as many head-spinning Emmy train wrecks as there used to be. International designers now view the Emmy carpet as an important first step to the 2008 Golden Globes and the Academy Awards (think Helen Mirren). And don't forget the armies of expert wardrobe stylists, makeup and hair people who make sure their celebrity charges look safely chic.

Still, mistakes were made. And you may not remember who made them. So, in the interest of improving this year's Emmy fashion show, let's sort through last year's Emmy carpet clutter and give some style suggestions to the re-nominees. After all, there's always room for improvement.
