Fashion advice for Emmy virgins

What not to wear (or do) at your first Emmy Awards.
By Elizabeth Snead, The Envelope

The upcoming Emmys are a big deal for the talented first-time nominees from hot hit shows such as "Ugly Betty" and "Heroes."

Although America Ferrera, Ali Larter, Hayden Panettiere and some of their freshman co-stars got a taste of the red carpet at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this year, these kids are still officially Emmy virgins.

Naturally, an untested nominee may experience severe anxiety over what gown to wear, wearing hair up or down and going with subdued or bright makeup, not to mention what to say and do versus what not to say and do.

Well, relax. To put you at ease, we've unearthed evidence of established stars' early venturing into the awards fashion fray. And it's not always pretty.

From Helen Mirren's '97 Golden Globes gobble to Will and Jada's Vegas act to Halle Berry's pinup pose and Jennifer Lopez's I-just-rolled-of-bed indie look at her first Independent Spirit Awards, it's clear that even today's big stars made big blunders.

Click here to read, look and learn, Emmy freshmen. Everybody makes mistakes. And you'll probably survive any embarrassment resulting from your first Emmy attire and/or actions. Knock wood.
