Story source: Based on the hit 2001 Broadway musical comedy written by Mel Brooks which, in turn, was based on Brooks' 1969 film of the same name.

Factoid: The Broadway version of "The Producers" won a record 12 Tony Awards. The first film version won Brooks an Oscar for best original screenplay.
