Synopsis: In 1929, 9-year-old Chiyo (Ziyi Zhang) is plucked from her impoverished fishing village to be groomed as a geisha in Kyoto's Gion district. She endures harsh treatment but eventually blossoms due to her singular beauty into the geisha named Sayuri. As a renowned geisha, Sayuri has access to a society of great power and wealth — but it's a society on the eve of its own extinction as world war looms.
