Jamie Bell
Best supporting actor for “Defiance”

Eight years ago, 14-year-old Jamie Bell danced into audiences’ hearts and won the BAFTA for best actor as the title character in "Billy Elliot" (2000). He's appeared in several major films since then, but he has yet to find another great role. That may change this December, thanks to Edward Zwick’s decision to cast Bell, who is now 22, as the youngest of three Jewish brothers who fight back against the Germans during WWII in “Defiance.”

Age on nomination day: 22

Did you know? Bell and actress Evan Rachel Wood were hired to portray a couple in the music video for Green Day’s smash hit “Wake Me Up When September Ends” (2006). By the time the shoot was over, they were together in real life.
