I'm standing next to a reporter when he stops George Lopez to ask him about the rumor that a portion of comments he made while presenting the favorite female movie star award to Sandra Bullock were bleeped out. (The offending remarks reportedly were jokes by Lopez saying he would let Owen Wilson have his way with him.) The reporter introduces himself, saying he is from USA Today. "USA Today?" Lopez responds, incredulous. "You go tell Bianco [the paper's TV critic, Matt Bianco] that I'm going to choke his ass!" The reporter laughs a little nervously as Lopez repeats the comment. A publicist points me out to Lopez. "George….this is the L.A. Times..." Lopez turns to me and says, "Get that down right, then. I'm going to choke his ass." He turns to leave and then turns back saying, "And write down 'Thug Life.'" Party people The show over, spirits are high backstage. Perhaps that's because there are no losers to bring the party down. Pig in blankets and chili-stuffed mushrooms circulate, and snow bunnies pass out Bombay sapphire concoctions. Alyson Hannigan talks up George Lucas' daughter. An exec type tells director Brett Ratner that his "jaw dropped" when he saw the trailer for Ratner's upcoming "X-Men 3." And as I drift out, I look around and see for certain that Geena Davis is by a mile the biggest person in the room. It may have been the People's Choice, I think, but it's still their Hollywood. |
