Davis turns in another dazzling, Oscar-nominated performance in the delicious 1939 soap opera "Dark Victory" as Judith Traherne, a beautiful, spoiled society woman.
But her partying days are cut short when she is diagnosed with a brain tumor and must undergo surgery. Judith falls in love and marries her doctor (Brent, with whom Davis was having an affair off-screen) even though she learns that the tumor will come back and kill her. Davis' fade-out is classic.
Davis' great line: "Nothing can hurt us now. What we have can't be destroyed. That's our victory -- our victor over the dark. It's a victory because we're not afraid."
