The Ting Tings
Record of the year: The Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name”

This peppy U.K. duo was playing all over Austin, increasing their buzz factor with every show. But it was a Friday night showcase in which the act’s danceable power-pop -- brightened with sassy electronic loops -- proved to already be arena-ready.

The act's set-closer, “That's Not My Name,” was a glorious a pop song, a smashing arms-in-the-air sing-along number with a hip-hop brashness, a slinky beat and a booming grand finale. Lead singer Katie White is a dashing burst of energy who demands attention, and drummer Jules De Martino gives her giant, spacious beats that let her have her way with the stage. “Are you calling me darling?” she asks, while De Martino slowly builds a world of swirling effects around her, letting the song build to a final 30 seconds that’s nothing but gusto.
