Will Oscar stiff women, again? |
By Mark Olsen, The Envelope
They don’t call the statue “Oscar” for nothing – besides the actress categories and “best dressed” coverage, the Academy Awards have always been dominated by men. One oft-told factoid is that no woman has yet to win the best director trophy, and only three – Lina Wertmuller, Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola – have even been nominated. Here’s a look at some of the female filmmakers who’ve made an impact in 2007. Some stand a real shot at Oscar glory, a few will earn 2008 Spirit Award attention, and most will be left by the wayside.
