Heap rises to the top

The brandy-voiced Brit is the surprise among the best new artist nominees
By Ann Powers, Times Staff Writer
December 7, 2006

The surprise name among the new artist nominees belongs to a brandy-voiced Brit who's really no newcomer. Imogen Heap, whose debut was released in 1998, works that mix of electronica and art rock that European chanteuses love. Next she formed Frou Frou with producer Guy Sigsworth; one of their songs appeared on the influential "Garden State" soundtrack. Heap then went solo again. Best multimedia moment: her version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallejuah" played while Marissa died in Ryan's arms on "The O.C."
